World Book Day: Digital and Content Marketing Executive – London


£26,000 per annum

Permanent. Full time.

Normal place of work: remote/home, with option for ad-hoc office days in London.

World Book Day is a small charity working to make sure that more children, from all backgrounds, develop the life-long habit of reading for pleasure.

We would like to welcome a creative, innovative, energetic and dedicated Digital and Content Marketing Executive to our small team. You will work alongside World Book Day’s Chief Executive, our Manager (line manager) and our Communities and Development Manager.

You’ll have the opportunity to develop your skills and experience in marketing and communications with a focus on digital and content marketing. You’ll make a contribution to improving levels of reading and book ownership – particularly amongst disadvantaged children – across the UK and Ireland.

Job Description

  • Supporting on all aspects of World Book Day’s charitable work; activities to deliver the annual World Book Day campaign and year-round engagement with families, schools, libraries and partners

This would include;

  • Contributing to the planning and production of creative, informative and engaging content for use across World Book Day’s digital channels, to increase engagement with our audiences and stakeholders
  • Designing, creating and editing a range of assets and resources including marketing materials, social media/website content, presentations and guidance (working with an external design team when necessary)
  • Developing creative ideas, keeping informed about digital marketing trends and innovative ways to deliver digital content
  • Assisting with the £1 book process communicating with publishers and ensuring that all materials and information are up-to-date and that timelines are on track
  • Supporting the design briefing and liaising with printers and retailers for print materials (posters, presenters, POS) and online resource materials for the annual campaign as well as year-round activities
  • Contributing to World Book Day communications including scheduling and writing copy for a range of stakeholders including publishers, charity partners, booksellers, schools, libraries and corporate partners
  • Social media coordination including scheduling, writing copy and designing assets
  • Writing, scheduling and designing monthly e-newsletters using Mailchimp
  • Website management including scheduling content, updating copy and assets and liaising with World Book Day’s digital agency
  • Coordination of approvals for use of World Book Day’s brand assets and promotional activity
  • Liaising with publishers and partners on content and sponsorship opportunities including reporting on the activity that’s taken place
  • Supporting the team on the World Book Day individual giving and fundraising programme
  • Meeting attendance as required, reporting on general and specific activities

Person specification

  • Experience of a role where a range of the skills set out in the person specification have been required, for example through a junior marketing or communications role.
  • You would receive full training in our systems and be supported to develop skills in all areas. 
  • Ability to demonstrate a commitment to World Book Day’s values: integrity, innovation, collaboration, respect, fun and celebration, all children reading for pleasure.
  • Excellent IT skills including experience of Adobe package (InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator) and Microsoft package (Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint).
  • Experience of using social media and website CMS.
  • Confident written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good attention to detail and competence with numbers.
  • The ability to organise a range of work streams and prioritise tasks and deadlines.
  • The ability to work under pressure and to adapt and design new processes.  
  • A self-starter with a strong work ethic, able to work effectively remotely
  • Creative, innovative and energetic.
